Achievers on The Price Is Right
On March 27th, 2006 a group of 20 Achievers made the pilgrimage to
the world's greatest game show - The Price Is Right. This is their
story.
Gathered from such remote locations as Louisville, Seattle and Los
Angeles via the forum, myspace
and word of mouth the Achievers converged at the Farmer's Daughter
hotel while in town for Lebowski Fest West -
LA 2006.

We arrived at CBS studios and got our nametags. (from right) Mike,
Xal, Bill, Ben, Will, Cheryl, Scott, Jon, Chelsea, etc)
During the first commercial break , Bob Barker asked about the Achiever
shirts. He asked "Well what have you achieved?" We explained
that we were inner city children of promise without the necessary
means for a higher education and fans of The Big Lebowski.
He had no earthly idea what we were talking about but welcomed us
anyway.

The next item up for bud was a rug! Several members of the audience
could be heard saying "That rug really tied the room together"
and "they peed on my rug" and they werent even with our
group. Proving that you dont need an Achiever shirt to be an Achiever
and that we are lurking everywhere!
When they called an Achiever to "come on down" we lost our
minds

(from left) Ben, Will, Bill, Xal, Kate (with the hair)
Chelsea did some sort of cheerleader jump which is evidently called
a "hike"
The posse as she makes her way down
Chelsea takes her place on contestants row next to Delores.

First item up for bid was a grill on the Price Is Right Train!
Chelsea bids $1200
James goes just over her bid with $1250 and visibly angers Chelsea.
Her face clearly indicates "Nuh uh you didnt!"
In a moment of game show justice, this guy bids $1251 and visibly
angers James who has a similar look on his face. Our Achiever Chelsea
has overbid by one dollar and has to sit out (actual retail price
$1199). Dolores takes the stage, plays for lovely furniture set and
loses.
The next item up for bid was this fabulous cotton candy maker!
Chelsea considers the item.
This was a creepy moment when the cotton candy maker warped the contestants
foreheads.
Chelsea places her bid of $500. Actual retail price - $1408!
Chelsea you win!
Chelsea takes the stage.
Clearly smitten by Bob.
She leans in for the kiss.
How would you like to win this?
A new car!!!!!
(Not to mention roller blades and a lovely gas powered fireplace.)
She began to jump up and down uncontrollably.
Master Key is the name of the game.
She guesses the price of this cordless cheese grater and picks up
a key. For those of you keeping score at home, she has now won a $1400
cotton candy maker and a cordless cheese grater.
This was one item that was discussed in line that was $18 and not
$31. She chose wrong and took her one key over to unlock her prizes.
Being in that studio was like being in the Land of Oz. I mean look
at this!
Bob explains the options.
Here goes for the car and........bzzzzzzz. No good. Chelsea does not
win the car but does get a chance to spin the big wheel.
I always enjoy the Hoveround commercials and thought I would include
a shot here to give you the whole Price Is Right viewing experience.
The wheel was magnificant.
Chelsea gives it a whirl.

As luck would have it, Chelsea did not advance to the showcase showdown.
I think it's safe to say that our lives will never be the same. We
know that Chelsea will enjoy her new $1400 cotton candy maker and
cordless cheese grater. Even though she didn't win that car, she went
out and achieved anyway. And proud we are of her. |
